As most of you probably know, Silver Linings Playbook was a movie from 2012 that garnered enough praise and critical acclaim to be nominated for an academy award for best picture. What you probably don’t know is that in 1997 Richard Nixon rose from the dead, robbed a Starbucks in Covington, Kentucky and used the money to buy a racehorse and win the Kentucky Derby. One of these facts I just told you is true and one is false, but each one seems equally believable to me since Silver Linings Playbook is one of the worst movies I’ve seen in years. When TNA Wrestling made the decision to cut down on their monthly Sunday pay per views it meant that the company would have to do more to attract wrestling fans on the PPVs they do offer. February saw no shows and instead were given a hot crowd in Britain for their entertainment. On March 10, the company rides into San Antonio, Texas to fill one quarter of the Alamodome to present Lockdown. They may only fill one quarter of a massive stadium but according to TNA President Dixie Carter, it will be the biggest US attended show in TNA history.
TNA Wrestling headed to the Fillmore in Detroit on the 22nd and the Ring Crew Wrestling Show decided to check it out because hey, why not? On Tuesday, February 19 after a WWE Smackdown taping in Mississippi, Jack Swagger was arrested with driving under the influence, marijuana possession and speeding. He is expected to appear in court on March 12.
Tonight 30 men will compete in the WWE Royal Rumble, an event that has been occurring since 1988 when it was broadcast as a television special on the USA Network. In the beginning it was merely a special event, but it eventually evolved into the way one gets a major title shot for Wrestlemania. It tends to be described as a way to get into “the main event” but that concept shattered when Alberto Del Rio won the Royal Rumble, only to compete in the opening match.
Ring of Honor rolled into Dearborn, Michigan (Detroit metropolitan area, home of Henry Ford) on Friday for an ROH Mid West Road Trip, hitting Milwaukee tomorrow. ROH set the show up for DVD taping so we may see the show on DVD in the future. It’s the opening paragraph, but I’ll go ahead and say it. ROH, your lights are blinding. But hey, it’s not like ROH has an impeccable reputation when it comes to production quality…
